Belle Mer Apartments (which means 'Beautiful Sea' in French) is managed by Mike, Anne and Claire Gulliver where the complex opened for business on 8th June 1999.
The site where Belle Mer Apartments was built was occupied before by Green Gables Boarding House. Constructed in 1951, this boarding house achieved some notoriety during its time as many a romance blossomed under its roof.
A painting of the old boarding house is displayed in the passage way on the first floor of Belle Mer Apartments and prints are hung in most of the apartments.

The boarding house was demolished in late 1998, when construction started for the present building. The native timber, mainly Rimu, was kept for recycling and utilised in the Belle Mer Apartments. The kitchen flooring and many of the dining tables, TV cabinets, bedside and coffee tables in the apartments are constructed with re-cycled timber from Green Gables. It's the extra little details like these that make our individually designed apartments even more exceptional.
